Rock Control officially launches...

After months of preparation, building a website and spreading the word about Rock Control, we finally launched! (Ok, so strictly speaking we launched 3 weeks ago and this blog is late but we have been crazy busy!)

So, lets give you the low-down three weeks in:

181 video auditions have been uploaded
Over 18 countries are now represented
2300 people have signed up to become band managers

OK, yeah, so this pretty much rock our world at Rock Control HQ when we woke up Friday morning to find out that the main man at Saatchi & Saatchi posted a real positive blog about Rock Control.

I recently got an email from Tom Middleton, a fellow Lancastrian on a mission. He’s auditioning for a television show in England called Rock Control, and he’s using social media as a means of making the cut. I get loads of emails every day from people pitching ideas, but there were a few things that struck me about both Tom and the show he’s trying to inspire his way onto.

I’ve talked a lot about the Participation Economy, and Rock Control is putting that concept to work. Part talent contest (think American Idol or in the UK – Britain’s Got Talent) and part reality show (a la Making the Band), Rock Control has the potential to be one of the most interactive television experiences we’ve seen yet. On their website, the producers state that: “Harnessing the power of modern media, Rock Control gives the global public total control of every single aspect of the band – from picking the members, to shaping their image and sound.”

Ever played Rock Band? Well, this is it. The real thing. Except instead of controlling animated characters with a plastic guitar, the public will actually play an active role in building a real band from the ground up. Who’s in the band, what they sound like, what they wear. Let’s see if the result will be the “global domination” that the producers are looking for.

As for Tom, he’s taking an equally interactive approach to getting himself on the show. He’s started a Facebook group to organize voters. He’s got a YouTube page showing off his guitar skills. He’s tweeting. He’s even emailing former local boys who might have connections (that’s me) to try to make his dreams a reality. He’s auditioning for the show on June 1, and you can check out his Facebook page to find out how to vote for him getting on the show. Good luck Tom.

You are at a gig, the stage is pumpin, the sound is heavy, the music is electrifying and you, amongst a few hundred others are going mental on the dancefloor. Right, there, just there, in that moment, when the music has taken you away you make your ‘Rock Face’. Your ‘Rock Face’ is the face that you make when you are in the moment and loving it! Come on, we all have one!

We want you to take a snap shot of your ‘Rock Face’. Get your camera out, pull your craziest Rock Face and stick it on camera and either upload it to the Rock Control Fan Page: www.facebook.com/rockcontrol or upload it to twitter with the #rockface. Alternatively you can post it on our myspace wall:www.myspace.com/rockcontrol.

One lucky winner will win a must-have prize for every band manager, an ipad!

Please note: If you upload to twitter you have to also be following www.twitter.com/rockcontrol in order for a chance to win. Rock Control: Rock Face ipad competition terms and conditions.

Rock Control HQ will offer the prize of one ipad to one individual who uploads a picture of their ‘Rock Face’ to the Rock Control Fan Page on Facebook or by posting it on Twitter with the #rockface.
The winner will be the person who posts the best Rock Face as chosen by the judges.
The Winner must be a fan on the Rock Control Facebook fan page (facebook.com/rockcontrol) or following Rock Control on twitter (twitter.com/rockcontrol) or be a friend on myspace (myspace.com/rockcontrol). If you are not a fan / friend of Rock Control you are ineligible to win.
The prize cannot be exchanged for a cash alternative.
The winner will be notified by the 10^th June 2010.
The prize will be delivered within 30 days of unrestricted ipad availability in the U.K.

Rock Control announces auditions

Due to totally unprecedented interest in Rock Control we are holding a series of auditions across the UK that will enable back room drummers and church hall singing sensations to audition for their shot at being in the world’s first public managed band releasing one song into every single chart that exists on planet earth.

Gloucester Rock Control Auditions:

Date: Sat 1st May

Location: Guildhall Gloucester Guildhall Location

Time: 10am - 6pm

London Rock Control Auditions:

Date: 8th May

Location: Harrow Club London Harrow Club Location

Time: 3 - 7pm

Manchester Rock Control Auditions:

Date: 15th May

Location: Tiger Tiger

Time: 1 - 6pm

All you have to do is turn up and be prepared to sing or play your instrument on camera (please bring your own equipment. Drums will be provided).
